Read more: Women in the workplace
The Women in the Workplace 2023 report, a collaboration between McKinsey and LeanIn.Org, reveals that while women have made significant gains in reaching leadership positions, particularly in the C-suite, gender equality remains elusive, especially for women of color. The report debunks common myths about women in the workplace, highlighting that women are as ambitious as men, with flexibility fostering their aspirations. It emphasizes that the primary barrier to advancement is not the glass ceiling but the “broken rung” at the first step to management. Microaggressions are shown to have a profound impact on women’s experiences, affecting their careers and well-being.

Here’s an intriguing article (unfortunately, it requires a subscription) promoting the ‘GPP’ – gender proportionality principle – that any given level in an organization should shoot for a gender balance that mirrors that of the level right below it. It also reports that gender disparities are most pronounced in levels of promotion, not in hiring:
Chilazi, Siri, Iris Bohnet, and Oliver Hauser. “Achieving Gender Balance at All Levels of Your Company.” Harvard Business Review. 11/30/2021.
